101 CO-CREATORS: UPDATE

Dear Colleagues and Co-creators,

After the residency period we are now working at full-throttle on Masako Point at ZDB. These are the most recent work updates:

POSTCARDS / SOCIAL BEARS / SHOP WINDOWS / MASAKO POINT

1. POSTCARDS

Several fliers/postcards will be distributed in the area surrounding the theatre (Bairro Alto). On the front of these postcards there will be a proposal to execute a single experiment. From the list of 101 experiments we are currently choosing between 15-30 experiments. Each individual postcard will therefore, in a very sober and simple way, propose an experiment on the front (i.e. Tell a stranger she is beautiful) and explain, in a summarized way, the way to perform it on the back, such as effect, duration, and tools.

These postcards will be spread around shops and bars as gifts. Ideas.

The only information available other than the proposal itself and its rules and explanation, will be the logo and the website.

2. SOCIAL BEARS

What if four bears went out for a coffee in Bairro Alto?

3. SHOP WINDOWS

In different bars and shops around Bairro Alto we will have the 9 videos showing on TVs. The idea (and for this we need these shops to give us green light) is to have these videos playing in a loop day and night so that people passing by will notice them but without forceful advertising.

Again, the only information available will be the logo and the website.

4. MASAKO POINT

We are re-structuring the space in order to create more than 1 different reality, reviewing the text, sorting out logistics and borrowing equipment and re-designing aspects of the show while maintaining the core idea intact.

The poster will also have the logo and the website available, thus finalising the process.

The program for the show will unite all the information above. Our idea is to have separate objects, united only by an image and the website in order to maintain the "reality-changing" side of all this discreet.

Please comment, give suggestions and ideas....

Hello there Portuguese team,

nice to read about your progress!
what you have sounds very exiting. I don't have much to add, just writing some thoughts about the four elements you've developed:

1. I love the postcards idea. Did you choose the tasks yet? Hope people will go for it.

2. I wander what will happen if each one of you bears will walk alone, and from time to time you'll meet each other in the middle of the street.. I think it will be quit something to witness two bears meeting in the middle of the day. maybe even a stronger affect than to see you walking together?

3. the shop windows idea sounds very good as well. will each place show only one video or several simultaneously?

4. more than one "different reality" space? what will you do in there? will you use it during the break?

what do you think about inviting one different guest actor for each show to seat in the "audience" with you? they don’t need to speak or to act- just to know the idea. maybe the new fresh presence in the "audience" space will bring something interesting for you guys?. It can even be one of your friends, family or colleagues that will experience the show from your point of view and will add a spice of "authentic experience".

well, more questions than suggestion..sorry..
keep up the update.
good luck!

hi lior!

nice to have news from you. it's great to feel we're still sharing ideas.

1. these are the ones we have chosen: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 32, 50, 53, 57, 61, 64, 65, 70, 72, 78, 80, 86, 90, 96, 97, 101. any other suggestion?

2. yes, I think it's a good idea. we discussed your proposal and we'll go that way. we are still looking for bear suites...

3. each window will only have one of the videos and each video will be at least in two shop windows. we are very surprised because the owners are being very receptive. we are finding funny places for the tv's: a pharmacy, a bakery,a tv shop, a flowers shop, a japonese restaurant... we will be concentrating the tv circuit only in the main street that goes from largo de camões to the theatre.

4. we are trying to create different spaces/realities inside the theatre space, divided by different curtains. we will try to put in the blog a scheme of the space as we are going to use it. we think the first part will happen as we did in C.A.P.A. (with some text changes and introducing some small events that can help us to feed the emptyness and the strangeness of this moment).
for the break we will introduce some changes. we were thinking about keeping the romeo and juliet scene but not the backstage scene. a curtain will open and reveal three little ballerinas waiting to enter another show that is happening behind a 3rd curtain. at the end this last curtain will also be opened and the public will see a poetic space with old set pieces facing the opposite wall.
well, these are some ideas we are developing.

we still couldn't find a mastroiani, but we're still looking!

keep in touch.
we're waiting for more suggestions and ideas.

alfredo.
